Sensei Kristoffer Johnson-Adams

Founder and Chief Instructor

4th Dan

Kris’s martial arts journey began in 1979, when he first trained in Kung Fu, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for martial arts. In the late 1980s, he expanded his skills further with Goju Ryu Karate, before beginning his dedicated study of Wado Ryu Karate in 1994 with the EWSKA under Ron Collier in Oxford, where he achieved his 3rd Kyu Brown Belt.

In 1999, Kris moved to Devon to train under Peter Hill, further developing his understanding of traditional Wado Ryu.

Returning to Oxford in 2000, he continued his Karate training and broadened his practice to include Shorin Ryu Karate and Kickboxing, earning his 1st Dan in both disciplines in 2004.

During this period, his skill and dedication were recognised in competition when he won two National Kata Championships in 2002 and 2004.

His commitment to Wado Ryu Karate led him to achieve his 1st Dan in 2007, followed by his 2nd Dan in 2010, and his 3rd Dan in 2015, all under the Oxford Wado Ryu Karate Club. In 2018, Kris established a new club in Oxford under the AMA when the Oxford Wado Ryu Karate Club closed.

In 2020 Kris moved to Swindon and opened a club under the EKO, where he continues to share his knowledge and passion with students. In recognition of his dedication, he was awarded his 4th Dan with the EKO in 2021.

and in 2025 Kris felt a change of direction was needed and broke away from the EKO and formed the Wado Kai Sport Karate Association.

With over 45 years of experience across multiple disciplines—including Kung Fu, Goju Ryu, Wado Ryu, Shorin Ryu, and Kickboxing—Kris’s journey reflects a lifelong dedication to continuous learning, growth, and teaching within the martial arts.
